Commemoration of World Aids Day
December 01, 2011
Today we recognise those who have passed from AIDS, we recognize the road they travelled and the gifts they had to offer us.
Today we acknowledge all the families, friends, partners and strangers who gave their love, their support and their assistance to those who are no longer with us.
Today we salute those who are travelling the journey with HIV. We respect your rights and we celebrate your bravery.
Today we give thanks to all those people working in the field of HIV and AIDS, the caregivers, the social workers, the doctors, nurses, activists, artist, all dedicating their compassion and skill to heal, educate and listen.
To those who tell their stories so that others may understand, thank you.
To those who have not yet found their voice, there is help.
To those who act rather than blame, respect.
To those who now understand what it is to be community, rather than isolated – you have taken one of the lessons this disease has to offer.
Today respect yourself enough to know your status, go get tested.
