DFL Playback
The DFL Playback Theatre Company is an innovative form of storytelling theatre which addresses various social issues according to a community’s needs. Playback Theatre is especially suited to confront South Africa’s challenging social issues, in order to break down barriers and taboos around topics such as HIV and AIDS, gender, race, culture and identity.

DFL Acting Against Conflict
The Acting Against Conflict Project aims to addressing different forms of conflict through experiential learning processes in high schools, universities and other youth centres in South Africa. The project aims to equip young pople with a range of creative strategies for conflict mediation and management.

DFL Zimbabwe Social Justice Project
DFL Zimbabwe Social Justice Project seeks to contribute toward Zimbabwean human rights, constitution building and democracy. The project targets Zimbabweans living in the Diaspora and Zimbabwe. The project comprises of the Woza Zimbo! Festival, educational, workshops and symposium. This DFL project partners with the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Centre’s Peak Truth to Power initiative.

DFL Drama Therapy Project
The DFL Dramatherapy Project proposes a short term “dramatherapeutic” intervention with grade eight learners and staff in schools of varying cultural and socio-economic structures to explore identity formation and managing difference. The project aims to utilise Dramatherapists and professionals who are connected to the DFL Academic Programme, the DFL Playback Theatre Company and DFL Graduates who have gone to specialise in Dramatherapy and/or have the relevant experience to support the project as co-fascilitators.

DFL Company Laboratory
DFL Company Laboratory is a Practice-based Research Project. The project aims to establish suitable arts aministrative structures that will nurture and develop:
- Training, research and development in arts management and arts administrative practices.
- Research into the training and development of a performance company in line with DFL’s vision.
- Practice-based research in contemporary performance, theatre-making and design South Africa.
This will be achieved through an internship programme for talented arts managers, performers and designers, a Resident Performing Artists Programme, and a rigorous process of research-based theatre-making projects.
DFL Site Partnerships
The DFL Academic Programme together with the Projects Office have formed selected partnerships with formal and informal community and education sites. There partnerships are governed by Applied Drama and Theatre Code of Ethical Practice. The partnerships iclude:
