David Gere to speak at the Drama for Life Africa Research Conference
August 17, 2010 – UCLA associate professor and director of the MAKE ART/STOp AIDS project will be presenting a keynote address at this years’ Drama for Life Africa Research Conference.
David Gere is associate professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and executive director of the Art and Global Health Centre. He is renowned for his innovative MAKE ART/STOP AIDS project, which mobilises artists in the bid to overcome HIV and AIDS, positioning them as key players in bringing about behaviour change.
At the Drama for Life Conference, Gere will present a keynote address on his new project, Through Positive Eyes, a collaboration with South African photographer Gideon Mendel. This project, while global in scope, draws much of its energy from South Africa and focuses on the importance of empathy in AIDS interventions.
