DFL Festival showcases play back theatre

Teboho Rantsoabe attended a play back theatre workshop and tell us about the experience.

The Play Back theatre workshop commenced in a involving and engaging manner with workshop conductor, Kathy Barolsky, a 2008 Drama for Life graduate engaging the participants in a warm-up session allowing all members to contribute.

Engagement and contribution set the tone and characterised the rest of the workshop and the choice of workshop space, the Wits School of Education Space Frame provided an intriguing and fascinating moment of exposure, bringing together people from different backgrounds showcasing varied and amazing life stories and experiences.

The playback theatre facilitator was particularly effective in making the stories told interesting and clear to the participants.

However, the beginning of the workshop was delayed by an activity that was going on in the same venue which resulted in some participants having to leave early. Again the conductor displayed her expertise in this field by not allowing the unfortunate disturbance to detract her from the workshop objectives.

She called the participants together to form a circle and express their findings about play back theatre.  For most of the participants, the workshop was a new experience and a worthwhile one.

One of the DFL scholars, Moshe Singer provided an enchanting atmosphere to the whole process with his wizardry on the guitar leading us into different moods and personal testimonies.
