Drama for Life, whose main aim it is to build capacity in HIV and AIDS education through applied drama and theatre, is organizing a screening of the internationally acclaimed movie “Life, Above All”, which deals with the topic in an deeply moving way.
“Life, Above All” is an emotional and universal drama about a young girl (stunningly performed by first-time-actress Khomotso Manyaka) who fights the fear and shame that have poisoned her community. The film captures the enduring strength of loyalty and a courage powered by the heart. Directed by South African filmmaker Oliver Schmitz (“Mapantsula”, “Paris, je t´aime”), it is based on the international award winning novel “Chanda’s Secrets” by Allan Stratton and and was awarded with the “Prix François Chalais” in Cannes 2010. http://www.life-above-all.com
“Life, Above All” won several awards and was short-listed for the Oscar. It is a critical piece of story-telling about HIV and AIDs in rural/small town South Africa in the age of denial, prejudice and conflict between traditional and contemporary society.
