Prof Wangari Maathai - DFL letter of condolence
September 27, 2011
To the family of Prof Wangari Maathai, her friends, colleagues and all brave women in Kenya,
Herewith, Drama for Life wishes to express their deepest condolences to you and acknowledge the departure of Prof Wangari Maathai as a great loss for everyone who knew her and for all people in Kenya and around the world that became a witness of her great work.
We would like to celebrate the life of an extraordinary lady that has been a role model to millions of people. Being the first woman in East and Central Africa to obtain a PhD and being the first female professor of the University of Nairobi, she achieved a lot for all African women. We especially acknowledge Wangari Maathai for her courage, her strength and her unique approach to combine feminism and emancipation, human rights and environmental issues.
Keeping a picture of Prof Wangari Maathai from the R.F. Kennedy, Speak Truth To Power Programme in our office and looking at her every day, we value her as one of the great heroines of Africa and hope that she will be an inspiration for all our students and visitors.
Sincerely yours,
Drama for Life Team
