Grace Meadows has centred her work on using drama as rehabilitation and activism, particularly with reference to social trauma. She has travelled extensively on the African continent and cites her proudest achievement as project managing and directing a documentary on The Lonely Road Challenge, a journey from Johannesburg to Moshi, Tanzania and a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro to call attention to the plight of orphans and vulnerable children.
Meadows’ film and media background and her 10 years of experience in entertainment television makes her a contemporary voice with a public profile. She is comfortable speaking with the youth and is a strong believer in the fusion of disciplines and expressions. Her style and approach is multi-media and cross-cultural and she has been recognised with an award (2007, Nigeria) for her role in public enlightenment, international friendship and mass communication. Her MA research is entitled “[an] Emancipation Ceremony: Theatre as Activism within the context of Human Rights in Southern Africa”.
Grace has been appointed as slass co-ordinator for Special Studies, a course dedicated to capacity building in HIV for DFL scholars as well as researcher for ‘Acting Against Conflict’ exploring the use of drama as a tool for conflict mediation. Grace is also the creative director of the highly acclaimed ‘HIV anti-campaign’ The Truth About You.
