Botswana

Best Actor Award winner for 2005 in Botswana’s Artist of the Year Awards, Mpho Rabotsima is the creative director and founder of Ramotswa-based Mama Theatre, which has done extensive work around HIV and AIDS education and other social commentary in Botswana. As a scriptwriter, director and performer, Rabotsima is known to audiences across Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. He has performed several times at the South African National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, and was seen in Botswana’s first television series, Re Bina Mmogo. Rabotsima has also played a lead role in a short film entitled Botshelo Teemane. Rabotsima has been contracted by Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) to train Brigades and Vocational Training Centres in educational theatre and to manage the 2008 BOTA drama competitions. He had worked with the British Council in Botswana as an art mentor in the programme Power in the Voice. He is also an active member of the Botswana Society for the Arts, which he serves as a committee member.
