Thokozani Kapiri is one of the new breed of Malawian artists groomed by the drama department at Chancellor College, a campus of the University of Malawi. Kapiri made his breakthrough into professional theatre in 2003 with Nanzikambe Arts in a production called A Garden of Plenty, showcased at the Young Vic Theatre in London. After graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama and English literature, he worked as a creative producer with Nanzikambe Arts until 2007, using theatre for education, development and social change. Kapiri seeks to develop theatre forms that will resonate with Malawian experiences and challenges. He is also experienced in participatory research and methodologies through his work with World Vision and the Centre for Social Research in Malawi.

He is currently doing his Honours degree in drama and film at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. His research examines the relationship between applied theatre practices in Malawi and the funding agencies.
