Drama for Life AFRICA Project

Drama for Life AFRICA Project is a Southern African Development Community (SADC) project in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooporation (SDC) and the Goethe-Institut.

This exciting project brings five SADC (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe) countries together around issues of sex, sexuality and sexual health.

The project, funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation, is about addressing issues of LGBTI, HIV/AIDS and Human Rights through performance dialogues. In the face of growing economic pressure, rigid socio-political and religious attitudes and policies toward sex, sexualities and sexual health, and regional communication network weaknesses, its strategic goals include establishing strong and sustainable regional and country specific partnerships to ensure the best possible sexual health educational practice.

The goal is to innovate, use and replicate an effective applied drama and theatre model which can be shared and used by Arts and Culture Practitioners throughout Southern Africa to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS and LGBTI stigma. The project has already produced a model called ‘Performance Dialogues for Community Enhancement.
