Supervision in Clinical, Educational and Community Drama Therapy Practice
The Internship in Clinical, Educational and Community Drama Therapy is a post-MA course certificate that forms part of the comprehensive HPCSA accredited Drama Therapy programme at the University of the Witwatersrand. This focused professional course mentors, develops and educates the Drama Therapist for Professional Practice in the South African context. Drama Therapy Interns will take up full-time or part-time clinical, psycho-educational and community-based internships primarily in the Gauteng region. Coursework develops a mind-body-spirit consciousness in practice, an appropriate role flexibility strategy for working in challenged contexts, a cultural and linguistic competency for therapeutic work, and an expansive expressive artistic range. Contemporary mental health issues are addressed, and effective therapeutic approaches are explored. The course stresses the importance of self-care, the enhancement of the internal supervisor, the necessity of the Drama Therapist as active, responsive agent, and an appreciation for divergent approaches to supervision and its ethical place in the profession.
